Guerrilla Media (GM) is a Vancouver-based group of media critics that creates popular education projects around social justice issues. Using satire as our main political tool, we primarily create and widely distribute parodies of daily newspapers, and government and corporate promotional materials.
Since our inception in August of 1993, we have created actions on the Free Trade Agreement, social program cuts, clear-cutting of old-growth forests, the right-wing backlash against welfare, and the genocidal treatment of First Nations. For each project, we use humour as a means to expose powerful interests, and at the same time, we try to raise the possibility of alternative solutions. Our parodies have been designed with an eye to intervening in political debate in a strategically calculate way.
